Some of my Best Friends are... roundtable discussion on race at A.I.R. (Dumbo)

Last Friday, I went to the second discussion on Race and white privilege in the art community organized by

Suzanne Broughel
of tART. Discussions varied on difficult it is even to tell if there's discrimination based on race, or if it is just an individual bias towards the person at hand. Another audience member brought up needing to have allies withing the white community if you wanted to change the way the system worked.

Towards the end, the question was raised on how to reach out to an audience that may need their ideas of privilege challenged. Because if you were attending this talk in the first place, would you already be aware and working on change?

Panelists included:
Florine Demosthene
Zulema Griffin (working in fashion, film, and art)
Elizabeth Sturges Llerena
Kira Greene
Nakiesha Gumbs
Kenya Robinson
